Bare copper and grounding

We buy bare and insulated copper wire

Grounding electrode conductors, bare copper, bonding jumpers and insulated copper in every size. Spec copper with a type and a size — not a barrel of mixed scrap.

Bare copper is the least ambiguous material in the trade: if it is clean and the size is known, it is a straightforward buy. Insulated copper is a step more complex, because the insulation type, voltage class and condition all factor in.

What we do not buy is unidentified stripped copper mixed with other metals. That is a scrap transaction, and there are better places to take it.

Keep it identifiable

  • The wire type or print legend
  • Size and strand count, for example 250 MCM 19-strand
  • Whether it is bare or insulated, and the insulation type if insulated
  • Approximate weight per reel if you have it
  • Whether any reels have been re-reeled onto a different spool

Copper is not automatically valuable

A 40-foot coil of #14 bare copper is worth less than the trip to pick it up. A full reel of 4/0 copper THHN is a different conversation. Size and quantity decide it, which is why the size field on the form matters more than the material field.

Wire and cable only

We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or unrelated scrap. Mixed loads are fine as long as we are quoting the wire portion.

Bare & insulated copper questions

Do you buy stripped copper?
No. Stripped and chopped copper is scrap, not spec wire. We buy wire with identifiable type and size, on a reel or in a coil.
Do you buy copper bus bar?
No. Bus bar and fabricated copper parts are outside our scope.
How much bare copper justifies a pickup?
It depends on size. Large bare grounding conductor adds up quickly; small coils usually need to be part of a larger load.
Can I send a photo of the reel instead of listing sizes?
Yes. A clear photo of the tag or the legend is often faster than reading sizes off a reel in a dim storage room.
