Control and instrumentation

We buy control, instrumentation and low-voltage cable

The small stuff that stops a plant project: control cable, instrument pairs, shielded multiconductor, communication and fire alarm cable, left on partial reels.

Control and instrumentation cable is specified down to the pair count and shield type, bought in one length, and almost always over-ordered. After commissioning, the balance sits in a maintenance crib because nobody wants to throw away cable that cost that much per foot.

We buy it: shielded and unshielded multiconductor, thermocouple and instrument cable, communication and fire alarm cable, in the original lengths or as partial reels with the legend still readable.

The details that matter here

  • Conductor count and pair count, for example 12 pair 18 AWG
  • Shield type: overall foil, braid, individually shielded or unshielded
  • Jacket and rating: plenum, riser or PVC
  • Feet remaining and reel or box format
  • Whether the cable is fire alarm or communication rated

Pair count and shield decide the value

Two reels of 18 AWG control cable with the same outside diameter can be 3 pair unshielded or 12 pair individually shielded. The second one is a different product at a different price. That is why we ask for the legend and the pair count instead of quoting from a photo of the reel alone.

Wire and cable only

We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or unrelated scrap. Mixed loads are fine as long as we are quoting the wire portion.

Control & instrumentation questions

Do you buy plenum-rated cable?
Yes. Note the rating, since plenum and riser cable are worth more than PVC-jacketed equivalents.
Do you buy fire alarm cable?
Yes, including FPL and FPLR rated cable. Include the pair or conductor count.
Do you buy Cat 5e or Cat 6?
Communication cable is reviewed, but structured cabling is a narrow market. Send the type, box count and whether the boxes are sealed.
Is small-gauge cable worth a pickup on its own?
Rarely. It is usually worth moving as part of a larger load from the same plant or crib.
